Is it retiring? Should I order now since it is on sale? I could have it shipped to my Parent's house while I am in Honduras. Does anyone have any reviews on it? Is it historically accurate? I'm sorry if this has been asked before.

I can't answer your questions, but I wanted to mention that celebrating Kirsten's Midsummer with my children and DH was one of the most fun and memorable things we did last summer. We followed the old AG club handbook and had a picnic with rye bread, cheese, fruit, and cherry pie (well, the handbook recommended rice pudding, but when I saw this beautiful cherry pie at Whole Foods I couldn't resist). We also made daisy chains and played music and danced. My daughters really loved it. Consequently, I knew I would have to have her Midsummer outfit, and I ordered it as soon as it went on special. I'll try to review it when it gets here (although I don't yet have a Kirsten to put it on ).
I know this is one of those outfits several people didn't like though, so I may be in the minority in wanting it. Sorry this was so long.

I just ordered it also and I'm excited to get it! I think it looks adorable according to AG's site, but not sure if it's historically accurate or not. There's a lot of ladies here that are history buffs, and I am not!

Either way, I think you should get it while it's on sale. It could be retiring, we never know!

This is nothing about the midsummer dress (it is very pretty and comes with a beautiful basket) but Jandjmom's reminded me of a funny story-

I have the original 3 girl cookbook, and the rice pudding recipie is in there. I had great success at homemade rye bread when I was 8 and wanted to make it too. (It was part of her breakfast.) I didn't have any raisins, so I substituted somethign that were the same size and color. Let me tell you, rice pudding with bacon bits is not very good stuff My family still won't let me get over this one and it's been over 15 years!

I'm not entirely sure about the accuracy of Kirsten's midsummer dress. I think she would have worn her Swedish folk dress like my Kirsten's lovely new dress Kirsten's new Swedish folk dress

I love Kirsten's rice pudding! I usually leave out the raisins and apples and make it for Christmas morning breakfast. This year it was so popular I only got two bowls before it was gone so I made a second batch.

I didn't used to care for Kirsten's Midsummer outfit, but after another board member pointed out that most of Kirsten's dresses were fairly plain, it started to grow on me a bit. Now I think it's really very pretty! It's true that she doesn't have any other "frilly" type dresses; most of her clothes are for work or everyday (even her birthday dress is gingham), so I felt that I owed her at least one really pretty dress!
So when I sent back a duplicate gift from my birthday, I included the Midsummer dress in my order--lucky me, it had just gone on sale!! Just goes to show, it was meant to be.....the AG Force at work!!

P.S. QNPoohbear, I LOVE your new Kirsten's Swedish Folk dress--absolutely beautiful!! [img]graemlins/heart.gif[/img]

A dress similar in style to the midsummer one is pictured in the Kirsten's World book as is the basket.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">I think that may have been me when I first got it and I stand by it.

I went back and forth on the dress when I was in the process of getting it and even for the first hour or so of having it. I was initally hooked by the comparitive uniqueness of it compared to the rest of her collection, and even period. I have about 3 off brand dresses that are similar it cut and style to her meet and school dresses (which are similar in themselves, not to mention the birthday dress which is also, but with shorter sleeves.) The frills and the color really seperate it. However, I'm not really a frills or polka-dot girl, so once I was sure my mom was buying it for me out of the list I gave her, I freaked a little bit, wishing I emphasized, say Lissie's summer dress more. Even once I got it, I was kinda like, "...purple polka-dots...." but as soon as I got it on Kirsten and saw the "change," it was amazing and is now one of my favorite dresses. I also really like the little basket.

However, I think it looks a little silly with her hair in her braids, either in the loops or down, but with her hair completely down or pulled completely back, I think it's gorgeous. I also think it looks good on Josie and is comparable enough to her riding dress that I say it could be historically accurate for her. Smae goes for Kirsten. There are some little things in the style that, "remind" me of her other dresses, such as the gathering into the waste, that I'm willing to say its historically accurate.

So, in a nutshell, I would definitely get the dress while it's on sale. It's well worth it.
